Starting therapy can feel overwhelming, especially when you are also navigating insurance, referrals, and questions about your child's needs. This page explains what to expect step by step so the process feels clearer and more manageable.
Insurance
Insurance-Based Pediatric OT
Insurance credentialing is currently in progress. Holistic Horizons Therapy is preparing to provide insurance-based pediatric OT in New Jersey. Coverage and eligibility will be reviewed before services begin.
We recommend calling the member services number on your insurance card to verify your outpatient occupational therapy benefits before your first appointment.
Questions to Ask Your Insurance
- Do I have outpatient occupational therapy benefits?
- Is a referral or prior authorization required?
- What is my copay or coinsurance for outpatient OT?
- Has my deductible been met for this benefit year?
- Is there a visit limit per calendar year?

The Intake Process
A clear process from first call to care plan
We've designed our intake process to be clear, efficient, and low-stress for families. Here is exactly what happens from your first contact to your first treatment session.
Free 15-Minute Consultation
A brief phone or video call to discuss your child's challenges, answer your questions, and determine whether our services are a good fit.
Obtain a Physician Referral
Contact your child's pediatrician or specialist to request a referral for occupational therapy evaluation and treatment. We can provide guidance on what to request.
Insurance Verification
We verify your insurance benefits prior to the evaluation. You will receive a clear explanation of your estimated out-of-pocket costs before your first appointment.
Complete Intake Paperwork
You will receive electronic intake forms including developmental history, current concerns, and consent documents. Please complete these before your evaluation appointment.
Evaluation Appointment
A 60–90 minute evaluation including standardized assessments, clinical observation, and parent interview. You will receive a written report with findings and treatment recommendations.
Begin Treatment
Following the evaluation, we schedule ongoing treatment sessions and develop an individualized plan with measurable, occupation-based goals.
